Lindyhop is an American dance which was born in the African-American communities of Harlem, New York City, in 1928 and has evolved since then. It is frequently described as a jazz dance and is a member of the swing dance family. (Lindyhop is the precursor to a dance commonly known as East Coast Swing.)
During classes, we strongly encourage all who are attending to rotate during classes. This means that every follower dances with every lead, so that everyone learns from each other! Because we rotate, you do not have to bring your own partner, though itโs fine if you do! Wear any clothes you feel comfortable moving in, and any shoes youโd normally wear for a day at the gym. A smile is the most important thing to wear while swing dancing.
